The Poetry of Angst

Boldly stated. The whole idea that the vast majority of humanity is going to be, at best, destroyed and at worst, eternally tortured, at the behest of a loving God, that was the horrific concept that propelled me away from evangelical Christianity, and toward the kinder, gentler brand. (Of course, I eventually left liberal Christianity as well.)

I get the impression that most people, deep down, sense there is something very wrong with the whole eternal condemnation idea. Some feel they have no choice but to go along with it, because it's what their faith teaches, but often when I converse with believers about it, I sense their unease, even when they say they accept such doctrines.

In lieu of a poem, here is a carol I used to sing, to the tune of the chorus of "The First Noel":

No Hell, No Hell, No Hell, No Hell
Love One Another And Things Will Be Swell

(Of course, I'm pretty sure you are coming out of a sect that doesn't believe in Hell.)
