To once again nominate a piece of non-fiction:
The Heavenly City of the Eighteenth-Century Philosophers by Carl L. Becker. The title may sound dry but it is a pretty lively short book that was originally presented as a series of lectures at Yale Law in the 1930s. It has the advantages of being widely available in many different printings and therefore easily acquired for a few bucks at a decent used bookstore. It is relatively short and most people could read it in a few days if they wanted and I think it would spark some interesting discussion. Don't expect it to get much support as a nomination but figured I'd throw it out there. |
