I have never purchased Sun glasses before. Working at the movie theatre I'd just find them in lost & found. I'd go to the L&F over at DLR and put in a request for a new pair!!

Sadly, my last pair is realy bad, since I no worky at the Theatre, I might actually have to buy a pair!

Soooooo... the old bornieo-moble is in the shop today. $700 for a tune up and new brakes. The guy at the shop said that a piece was missing off the brake pad and had it fallen off and got stuck in the wheel it would have locked up the wheel and the results would have not been good had I been driving at the time. Hmmmmm...

I always find myself in a quandary. If I pay $12, I get absent minded and do indeed lose or break them in the blink of an eye. I sometimes feel like if I pay more, I'll be motivated to actually give a crap and keep better tabs on them (e.g., the pair just replaced cost me $40 and I actually had them for over a year!). But, of course, a good portion of the time I pay the extra and something still happens to them.

This time I ended up with the cheapo option (2 pair for $20, score!) 'cause, save for the $140 (and above, yes I'm aware that I can easily spend a lot more than $140) options, they were the only ones I've found that look decent.

I find that the more expensive a pair I buy, the quicker it gets lost. Cheap sunglasses stay around forever. This holds true for hats and umbrellas as well.

There is a similar phenomenon involving watches. The batteries in cheap watches last longer. I don’t know why.

I disagree... I've had the same umbrella since 1994.

And good sunglasses are easy to keep if you never let them leave the car. That might defeat the purpose for some, but I often can't stand to wear them, so I strictly keep the Maui Jims for sunset driving.

I've had the same 3 pair of sunglasses (all over $50) for over 3 years and I have an unfashionable pair of RayBans in a drawer. I find I don't lose the expensive ones.

I hold on to expensive sunglasses longer than cheap ones but I also get more annoyed at the inevitable chips, scratches, and other defects that tend to accumulate (no matter how expensive, actually storing glass in a case when not in use lasts only about 45 minutes after purchase).

So, in the end, buying expensive sunglasses just results in me hating my sunglasses longer (because when you spend $200 I'm not going to get a new pair just because the temples are a bit twisted).
