I had someone trying to "phish" my bank account this week. That's the second time in about six months. The first time I got an e-mail saying there was a problem with my sign on or password, something like that. The e-mail had all the right logos, it looked exactly like it was from the bank. But I was suspicious and didn't click on the link. (I don't even use the links when the bank informs me about a bill.) Instead I signed in to online banking the usual way and had no problem. I e-mailed customer service to ask about it and they gave me an address to forward the e-mail to so they could investigate.
This time I didn't even bother to open the e-mail, I just forwarded it. But it's annoying and scary all the same.

Only twice in six months? I get a dozen a day if I look through my spam filters.
At work I am on a project developing a product that will generate emails that look a lot like standard phishing attempts. It has been surprisingly difficult to get some of the managers to understand why I am putting so much effort into designing things to minimize this. |
