So, anything cool going on for the 4th?
I'm probablly working so and probablly late shift so i won't be home in time for fireworks or to do any BBQing or going out either. Oh well not a biggie cuz i think it is a holiday pay day for me anyways regardless. Plus i really don't care about the 4th all that much (it used to be funner when i was little).

I only have Wednesday off too. They do fireworks at the High School which is right by my apartment so I can view from the front porch if I don't feel like walking down there. I think Maddy is playing Polo or something with her dad in the morning. If she gets back in time we may head up to Disneyland for the fireworks.
Maybe I'll clean my house and get all organized - nah. Probably sleep in and watch crap TV all day. It was my Dad's favorite holiday (he was a closet pyromaniac so anything involving fire was good). I do miss being in an area were you can get fireworks and set them off. Sparklers were always my favorite. Fireworks were banned one year because of fire danger so my Dad lit road flares, not really the same.

Wait a minute, you guys can't even get sparklers? Here I thought we had it bad, I'm sorry. I love doing sparklers with the boy, even if they are the cheesey ones now.
I think Wendy lives in the coolest state around here for fireworks. Last year we went to Washington for theirs and it was lots of fun. It was a little loud for the boy though. |

Here they're all banned. You can't get anything. Maddy went to a birthday party a couple years ago and the Dad had gotten a few packs of sparkers from somewhere. The kids had no idea what to do with them. They've had it drilled into them not to play with fire so most wouldn't even hold one. It kind of made me sad.

I'm starting to think I may end up at my aunt's house, depending on what's going on there. Fireworks are permitted in Costa Mesa, at least according to last year's rules - so I might go blow some stuff up there.
I'm still hoping something better comes along. I want to have some non-family time, considering how much time I've spent with both sides over the last couple of weeks.

Certain small cities in OC actually allow the sale of small scale fireworks, as long as they donate some of the profit to charity (I don't know the exact numbers). It's crazy, because in Garden Grove and elsewhere you'll see the fireworks booths spring up - at high schools. I'm not seeing it in Orange.
When we lived in Stanton, the local kids had their share of sparklers etc. It was pretty cool, though slightly frightening (I grew up without any of it). Now I want to see 1776 - never seen it.

From what I understand from a Costa Mesa resident ... they can sell fireworks in Costa Mesa, even though they are illegal to use in Costa Mesa.
How's that for logic?! |

Hmm, weird. I used them in Costa Mesa with no problems...
And now I've just looked up the City of Costa Mesa's website. Yes, you can light fireworks between 4 and 10 PM. Though I've seen them go off much later. Besides... who even starts lighting them until 9 with all that sunlight, anyway? Lame. ![]()
