She took the girls to a high tea this fall. (neither of them had fun nor drank any tea). They had never seen sugar cubes and apparently were fascinated with them. So she decided they needed sugar tongs for Christmas.

Not age appropriate but something they can save for the future. When they become all lady like. Guess you better not send M with me to the concert. I wouldn't want to corrupt her into being a lifelong tomboy

My FIL once gave me as a gift (early in Susan and my relationship), a hand-painted ceramic figure of an owl with a graduation cap and gown. It obviously had been around a while and had a chip in it. He kept a straight face, so I felt it prudent to act pleased with my gift.

I did get even with him a few years later (I am lucky to have a cool FIL).
