I see it as such:

You know how after a particularly gluttonous night of drinking and the subsequent hangover the next morning, one often states "I will never drink again" which is followed promptly by a cocktail a couple days following? I think that is what happened with the bacon.

We got drunk on bacon.

But that's ok. We will live to devour bacon another day. The simple fact that we had bacon remaining doesn't make us any less bacon lovers than the fact that we have booze remaining after a party makes us less of a lush. We simpled overshot our estimations. It was bound to happen.
