I have a theory that so many people die days short of their birthday because deep down nobody really enjoys having the "birthday song" sung to them.

Interesting non-fact: According to the authors of the "birthday song" when somebody hits 90 years of age celebrators should switch the ending of the song from "... and many more!" to the age appropriate, "... and a couple more!"
