Are you running SQL Server 2005 on your home PC? I do but I'm strange that way.....

It is not something that comes with Vista (even if you are sharing).

One note: it is my WORK computer.

To the best of my knowledge, I am not running SQLS2. I assume that it is an OS? (Sorry - I am a PC neophyte)

It's a database engine. It may very well be running. Hit "ctrl-shift-esc" to bring up the task manager then click on "Processes". Look for processes named something like "sql server".

If it IS running, how can I make it NOT run (besides force-quitting in the Task Manager every day)?

If it's running, that likely means something needs it, I wouldn't suggest killing it.
