There was a Zelda in my family - a very common Eastern-European Jewish name at one time. Of course, if I honored that today, my kid would just get made fun of due to the video game.

A high school friend was Gene-ee.
Around here it would be pronounced closer to John, but maybe more Jawn (like yawn, with a J like in John) sound. (As the French would pronounce it, I think)
All three are spelled the same way.

My coworker pronounces it Gee-nee. I was spelling it wrong for a while (Jeannie) and was very embarrassed when I found out. I'm kind of protective over that sort of thing.

See, and I insisted on Jennie, which meant that even though I had a popular name I never had much with my name on it either. Worst of both worlds.
