It had been a LONG time since I've read the book, I did not recall the story. CP brought it home from the library for me, at which point I realized why I didn't remember the story. There IS no story. That's the beauty of the book, it's the absolute essence of innocent childhood fantasy. What little "story" exists outside of the world of the wild things is sublimely minimalistic, a tiny snippit of reality to connect you with the kid, and nothing more. I can't possibly see how adding a movie about childhood angst or family strife or whatever blather they've made it around 30 genius lines of silly fancy will do anything but harm. Not to the book, that is untouchably timeless. But I do not hold any high hopes for the movie.
