				            | I think a major thing people forget about the books is that they're completely from Harry's perspective.  And it seems to me, if Harry doesn't overtly notice something, it doesn't get discussed.  She stops talking about Hermione's bushy hair partway through, as she's made it through puberty.  I think the book just starts out at her awkward phase and by book 5 she's pretty much through it. Just as the grown-ups start out as (to an eleven-year-old) black-and-white, good-or-evil, somewhat distant... they eventually are depicted (with the exception of, say, Voldemort and company) as complex people who are human and who make mistakes. They were always complex, Harry just couldn't see him that way. |
