Intriguing, that's definitely a deal. There aren't many reviews online for this one, and one of them says that the sound only turns on if it hears louder noises (and that mom says she's "vigilant"). Not being that vigilant myself I'm still considering it but I wish there were more reviews.

I now take this vow, that whatever new baby gadgets we get we review online, even though I've never been much of a reviewer. Vow locked in!

She didn't say she'd review them in a timely manner. Eventually that kid is moving out. Similarly, I figure I still have time to send thank you cards for gifts received at my first wedding.

I just had a regular baby monitor. The video monitors had just come out and were outrageoulsy expensive. The regular one worked just fine. I mostly used it when he was taking a nap, or in his playpen for quiet time. When he started walking (at 9 months), I used it to listen to see if he was making an escape from his crib.

We never used our monitor. Tori was plenty loud enough to hear.

I do understand that they might be useful in the event of an alien invasion, though.

We used to love listening to our neighbors fight over ours, and approach information for airlines (no kidding). Never much use for hearing the kids however... Hopefully the technology has advanced.

I can vouch for advancements. Our niece's is fantastic. Cordless, charges on a base, picks up sound great, big screen, night vision. At one point they were able to see that although she wasn't crying, she had stuck her leg in the crib slats. Not life threatening but pretty damn cool.

They also get to see how she plays and talks to herself before going to sleep. The images tell much more of a story than the noises.

Now I'm sure theirs cost a pretty penny, but I am hoping we are able to get something with a cam.

The video one's are awesome because if you hear something you can glance at the monitor and tell if it's just them being fussy or if there's really a reason to go in.
