With a subtle sound effect of the reel clicking, we know that the shark is near. Click click click = danger. Wonderful!

The way that this scene was shot doesn't look like they were only several feet offshore. Ah, the wonders of film making.

Brody is not allowed joy in this film. Anytime he gets happy, something bad happens. He gets his knot tied finally and the shark takes the line violently. He's happy a shark gets caught and Mrs. Kitner clocks him.
