In the course of a conversation with someone on Facebook chat, wherein the longevity of FB was deemed to be questionable, I mused that it would be hilarious if someone created a site that was everything Facebook used to be, and beat Facebook with it.

And what did it "used to be?" Doesn't seem that different to me now.

Planning a luncheon event at work. About 450 people coming. Some companies are buying tables, some are people coming by themselves, some want to sit with certain people and not with others, some are paying now, some are paying at the door, some are paying partial, some are comps, some are scholarships... This is like a math word problem that Excel is helping me sort out. On top of all that, some companies have a list of guests, some don't, some won't know until the day of the event. And an exact count is needed to order the right number of lunches + an estimation of walk-ins that day. This is so left-brained that it's making me crazy, but at the same time, it's kinda fun, too.

Info used to be a bit more private, you didn't have to jump through hoops to keep things limited to friends only. Certain features were easier to use (some had 2 different ways to access them), etc.

Hmm, I personally think Facebook has greatly improved the privacy options. Yeah, I suppose the original toggle switch was more definitive, but it also meant I couldn't be at all selective about my level of privacy.
Oh, and you were greatly mistaken if you thought facebook used to be MORE private by default. One of the biggest early complaints was just how much info was available to "your networks" (which you became a part of whether you knew it or not) by default. The only difference now is that they make the lack of default privacy more obvious. I still have a lot of issue with the usability of the added privacy features, but putting UI design issues aside I've found that, with little exception, each change has been a step in the right direction for privacy control. Facebook becomes much more functional (and distinguished from other services) for me the more finely I can filter what I post.

To me, FB is way more user friendly than MySpace.

My mother is on Facebook.
Which is why I'm not. I'm thinking of having t-shirts and bumper stickers made.

My mom wanted me to create a Facebook for her. So I did. Then I added her and blocked her from viewing everything. Then I deleted her when random friends of hers who I haven't seen in 25 years and have no idea who they are kept trying to add me.
