The picnic meals worked out great for my birthday! I definitely recommend going that route. Be sure to get in line 30 minutes before your Fastpass return time. Also, when you go to get your viewing spot, be sure to be up against a rail. (You don't need to be in the very front or even the second tier for a good view, just be sure to get a spot against the railing and as close to the left yellow section ropes near the ground fountain as you can! Most people just flood to the front tier which is pointless.)
