That's fine, but it is an awfully weak structure on which to build 10 hours of film.

But, really, I'm just sharing the view of someone who hasn't read the books. The movies have done nothing to make me want to read the books (nor anybody I know who has seen the movies but not read the books). Sometimes a good adaptation is a great movie and hints at the greater depth in the book. These don't.

I'm not trying to convince anybody they shouldn't like the movies.
