My beloved Boris is the most loving, devoted pet. He comes when called - usually running - and arrives with a little vocal trill. He likes to play games, especially peek-a-boo. His most favorite thing in the world is to lay on top of me and nap. He follows me around the house from room to room. If he's sound asleep on the couch and I tip-toe upstairs to check the dryer he's almost always rushed past me to wait at the top of the stairs before I even get halfway up. He knows several commands.

Sasha's more typically cat-like, but I love her anyway. Although she's a little too stupid to truly pull off the alleged feline aloofness.

I've never understood why there are leash laws for dogs (a good law) and penalties for not cleaning up after your dog ($250 fine in Phoenix), but cats can roam free.
When was the last time a cat mauled and killed a child and then crapped on the sidewalk?

When our neighbors cat was mauled to death in their front yard, I found out that there ARE leash laws for cats. That was what the SPCA told me when I called in to report it and turn in the dog who did it.

I spent way too much time looking at the kitty cartoons. I really do like cats, and would love to have one. I just don't want it to be in the house, not just because of the girls, but our cats were always outdoors cats. Since I don't think it would be fair to the cat, or the neighbors, we won't have a cat. Also PoohDog has a thing about cats. The last one got his nose before he treed it.

My beloved Dancer who just passed away far too soon, was my dog-kitty. He followed me everywhere. I could not even tiptoe or sneak out of a room, he'd leap off where he was and run after me, like Prudence's Boris, pass me and wait for me to catch up. If I slept on the couch, he was sleeping on me or right next to me if I was just sitting there. When it came time for bed for me, he'd run ahead, leap on the bed and sprawl waiting for me. He was a great mouser, both the live pesky version and the tou variety. His most dog-like attribute was that he would play fetch the mouse. It was his favorite game (next to the biting game). I could throw a mouse toy down the hally way, into another room or off the bed and he would joyfully leap for it in the air, chase it down and play with it, then bring it back to me and drop it at my feet (or bed, where ever he found me) and await poised and anxious for me to throw it again. He absolutelty LOVED to play fetch, it was totally endearing. He was so smart and never missed anything new in the house, nothing was safe and no roll of TP was ever left unshredded if he was given a chance to get to it. His markings were great too, he had a hidden Mickey on his butt. He was Mr. Affectionate and Mr. Snuggle, he was spoiled rotten and he was also a scaredy-cat until he was able to figure out who might be the new person. Upon hearing my keys at the door, I'd hear the thunk of him jumping off the couch and find him rolling on the floor, awaiting his belly rub. If it was a stranger, he'd run and hide under the quilt on the bed and be a lump nobody could see. I miss him, he was my very special little boy.

Tango falls more under the aloof cat description, although she is not aloof, just choosy when she wants to snuggle and be affectionate. She is smart, never misses anything new and is a great watch-kitty. She's as great a mooch as any dog, big eyes and perched like a vulture for a taste of anything I might be munching on. If I'm in the kitchen cooking, she is chatting me up the entire time, no matter what I am cooking, but she is ever hopeful it is shrimp. If she smells fish, look out, up on her hind legs, feet hanging onto the counter in full stretch, being a pest and complaining loudly I'm chopping too slow! Tango is fearless with people, always ready to investigate who walks in the front door. She also loves to play with mouse toys and balls, but she absolutely does not grasp the concept of fetching. Obviously a boy thing. Like her late brother, if I am just surfing on the web, leaning on the desk, that is an invitation to curl up and fall alseep in the crook of my arm. She also loves to have her head scrtached.

Ah, this went on a little longer than anticipated, so apologies to the non-cat people!
Donna

Do other cats burrow? Boris likes to sleep under blankets - particularly afghans. Completely under.
