John Huston’s directorial debut has become one of the greatest film noirs of the twentieth century. The cast is nothing short of legendary, with Peter Lorre as the slimy sidekick of uber-villian Sydney Greenstreet and Elisha Cook Jr as the nervous gunman. Detective Sam Spade becomes embroiled in a strange, deadly race to find the precious statuette of a falcon, in what remains one of Bogart’s best performances. What a fabulous movie to start with!

It is, to me, one of the few perfect films. Cast perfectly, nice tight script and the grandfather of all the great noir films to come.

I'd be there in a hot minute if I could be, the stuff that dreams are made of!

Gah, what of the May swanking? We were going to go to that.

Also, what is the definition of "tall chair"? Would a portable sports/beach chair be "tall," or are we talking barstool-tall?

Beach chairs are perfect, if you're talking the classic, simple folding beach chairs, the ones with seats that are only a few inches off the ground (e.g.). Ones like this tend to get in people's view.

I'm assuming the swanking is still on, and that NA was just posting for anyone who might not be going to the swanking but still has that Saturday free.

Dang, I was hoping instead for Dan Rowan and Dick Martin's classic THE MALTESE BIPPY. I've never seen it, but it's the only feature film to have spun off of the TV phenomenon that was Laugh-In.
