Just out of curiosity is a prescription even legally required if you get pills directly from the doctor? I thought it was just required to get the pills from a pharmacist.

I've many times received antibiotics directly from a physician (in the form of a stack of sample packets) without ever receiving a prescription and with no prescription information on the packaging.

Would the whole thing have been avoided if he had just taken the pills out of the bottle and put them in a baggie? Or one of those day-by-day pill sorters?
