For "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", I'm going to be on the crew for the show. Part of my duties is to sell food before the show and during intermission. Everyone in the crew and box office staff are going to be characters of some sort. Since it takes place at a elementary school, the lighting and sound people are going to be the AV Club, the box office person is the principal and the waitresses serving "spirits" before the show are cheerleaders. I am going to be selling lunches. Any guesses on what character Brad is going to play?

Ufta!
We had a really good first rehearsal/read thru for the Drowsy Chaperone. It's a pretty small cast, maybe 14 of us total. I have to say it was a little intimidating. A lot of big dogs in this show. Including one of the big theatre producers here taking the part of the Man in the Chair. One of the singers of the Hawaiian group Na Leo Pilimihana is going to be Trix the Aviatrix. One guy who is a big time opera singer here and an actress who is a big time singing coach here in HI is Adolpho and Drowsy. I must say, I feel like a newbie to this even though I'm not. Well, they liked what I did with the character. I just gave it a stab and the director and producer liked it okay. A lot of singing and dancing. We sang a lot tonight. Oh, and did I mention I have to learn to tap dance for one of the numbers? lol ![]() |

Well, the show I'm in right now opens today. I'm pretty stoked. The last two nights of previews rocked, so it kinda feels like we opened already.
To be honest, it's been quite an interesting ride. One of the more difficult plays that I have been in. The end result is so solid that it almost makes riding that bumpy road worth it. I gotta say, tho, that last night's final notes session with our director played out a lot like Anne Baxter's "thank you" moments to Bette Davis, Celeste Holm etc at the end of All About Eve. If you've seen the movie, you know exactly what the cast's non-verbal responses were to a bunch of fatally phony compliments from someone who has been panned island-wide. (You can check it out here at about 9:12 or so.) |

Well, ducklings, that's another show come and gone. The Drowsy Chaperone closed tonight. The big surprise of the evening was that Lisa Lambert came to see it. She wrote the lyrics for the show. She's a terrific person and a wonderful writer. She signed my program.
An awful rehearsal process evolved into an extraordinary run. I adored the cast and crew. I'll try and post some pics if I can. Thanks to everyone at the LoT for all of your support and kind words. You are the blues chasers that help me get through. Mahalo. ![]() |

Since this has evolved into the facial hair thread, I officially went down to a goatee tonight. We'll see if it sticks, or if the rest comes off.
