From the OC Register:

Orange County Fire Authority reports the Santiago Fire has burned 15,800 acres and is 30 percent contained. The fire has changed course and is moving north toward Silverado Canyon. Lake Forest, Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills are no longer in danger. But 2,000 residents in Silverado Canyon are being asked to evacuate voluntarily in the next hour. They can go the Santiago Canyon College in Orange or to Saddleback Church in Lake Forest. - 7:12 p.m.

NM has left his house for the moment. There are still hot spots and flame coming from trees further down the canyon.

Susan just got off the phone with NM. If I understand correctly, the fire burned his backyard and his front yard all the way down to the street, but his house is untouched.

I am just in shock about that.

I don't think it burned his front yard. I think it was just the canyon brush and trees that burned right up to his backyard fence. His yard didn't burn.

Confirmed: front yard fine, back yard ok, canyon behind the house scorched.

Portola Hills is not looking good right now. Things have flared back up and the winds are getting stronger.

The old MCAS El Toro is now at risk. From the OCFA website these streets are closed: Irvine Blvd. - closed between Modjeska and Pusan

Irvine Blvd goes straight through the base. Pusan used to be a street that turned into base housing. There are empty shells of houses and structures. And lots of brush.

Driving up El Toro to Portola

I think I was on Portola by the time I got this one:

They were using the Walmart parking lot as a storage/staging area (and though I didn't get pics, the firemen were at the In-n-Out there, getting their first break/meal in about 24 hours)

Fire was more apparent by the time we were coming out of Walmart:
