Pretty much the same info that is linked to in Mousepod's post above... TPTB wanted to show a future with more gender equality in dress. She referred to them as "skorts", and said that they were basically just shorts with front and back panels. Oh, and she also said that a bunch of Paramount secretaries were given the task of deciding which of the male extras had the best legs...
