MF - the problem with window units here is the windows slide from side to side, so you have to do a lot of prep work before it can be installed.

There do exist stand alone air conditioners that you can put out in a room, no attachment to a window. My Great-Aunt has one. It's fairly large though and I'm guessing more of a swamp cooler than an airconditioner. Not sure it would be worth the costs but it does work for cooling one room at least.

I guess our power co is running at peak capacity and is requesting people turn off as many appliances and such as they can until tonight. Looking at the news, it seems likely that California is going to have some real problems soon as well. Hope no one out there loses power- maybe it might be a good idea for those who can to stock up on ice, batteries and stuff.

Parts of LA have been losing power. The MySpace Data Center keeps having power failures. There are strong power warnings in effect. The prez of our company wants the thermostat at 72 and everyone is in sweaters. It could easily go up to 74 and no one would notice.

That reminds me though to stock up on ice and batteries. And water. Mainly because I am out of water bottles anyways. Thanks WB.

Also make sure you have one non-portible phone. If the power goes out for a while and your cell dies at least you'll have one phone for emergencies.

It's like a thousand degrees outside, and I'm on a cleaning tear. I've cleaned out the pantry, which has needed a really thorough hosing since 1999, and then ventured into truly frightening territory: the top of the refrig.

Tomorrow we get our new dishwasher installed- yeah!

I need to remind David to service the generator in the motorhome. If there is an outage I will need somewhere to head. ...if he ever gets home...

Gah!!! Just lost power for almost 2.5 hours. Just as the Vicodin, which already makes me feel nauseated, was taking effect. Ugh. Thought I was gonna lose it at one point. But I cooled off with a cold shower, and crashed in the bedroom (which was slightly cooler). Then my mom called (I had called her just after it went out to let it go)...and as soon as I answered the phone, the power came back on (thanks mom!).

So....why the hell can't politicians stand up to radical environmentalists and get some nuclear power plants built? It's flippin' insane and America should not have to deal with rolling black and/or brown outs!
