How do you actually pronounce "kitteh?" (Every option I've tried is a little hard for me to say, though it helps if I put stress on the second syllable.)

It doesn't really matter how one pronounces it - the cats will never come when you call them. You're lucky if you get a look over their shoulder in disdain.

I always imagined it was pronounced Kit-AIR" (ending in the flat Aussie "Air" sound, not the classic American "AiRRRRRRR". Think Air without the R at the end. Sort of Eh. Like the "e" in Benevolent. Or a Japanese "e"

My cats might surprise you. They both respond to me when I call either of their names (but do not distinguish between names - they both come no matter which I call), or when I make kissy noises, trills and other sounds. They are very social, interactive and affectionate animals, for which I count myself incredibly fortunate. I have had a few "go the hell away" cats in years past. (I loved them, too.)

And yes, I just now tried calling out "kih-TAY" and here they are.
