I too grew up in Vancouver and they never made us go outside for recess in the rain. In fact we loved the rainy days because then we got to stay inside and play boardgames instead.

Of course, it really didn't rain that often. There was a heavy mist or light drizzle a lot but that's not really rain (if you can be outside for 20 minutes and it hasn't soaked through your coat, then it isn't raining so far as I'm concerned).

According to Weather.com, it is currently 112° F in Death Valley, CA (although they say it only feels like 107° )

It is currently 113° F in Baker, CA (although they say it feels like 114° - I don't get that!)

thats virtually freezing for Death Valley. in my dads infinite wisdom, he took us camping in DV for a couple of days during our usual 2 week camping trip in the summer one year. he called it camping, we called them survival trips. surprisingly, there were very few other folks there during that particular stretch. gee.....I wonder why...it was only 130*F the first day.
