If you want to make things really frightening, follow up with John Boorman's dizzying Exorcist II: The Heretic. There's sure no other movie like it. (I've prbably watched it more times than the original, which must say something dubious about my priorities.)

I suppose watching Friday the 13th would be a little on the nose, though I find that the original is a very good party movie. In the same vein (snarkle), The Burning is the best of the Friday wannabes, and the first Sleepaway Camp is the most jaw-dropping.

Well, I'd like to show movies that gave me nightmares as an adult. They're few and far between. Two that come to mind are Quatermass and the Pit and Darabont's The Mist (black and white version).
The Heretic is so hard to watch... even the bee's-eye-view shots, and while Legion has one of the best jump-out-of-your-seat moments in all of cinema, it's not a nightmare-inducer. I'm certainly going to keep away from the slasher flicks.

The Ring really shook me up at the time, but a more recent rewatch didn't hold up, maybe because a lot of the J- horror I've seen since has been so similar. Audition never fails to chill me, though.

I'm going to be seeing Summer Darling this Friday night. Happy and sad all at the same time.

Yep, I refused to watch The Ring again for years, because I didn't think I could stand it. But when I finally did - meh.
Nothing like the original viewing tho - creeped the fvck out of me, I'll give it that. Stayed away from a repeat viewing because I was scared to watch it again. Unjustified, as it turned out, but the mark of a really, really scary movie (I can't think of another one I similarly stayed away from). |

I'm happy for you. Summer Darling will be amazing, I'm sure. I'd go, but Long Beach is sooooo far away.

Maybe I need to get Lani to see it again somehow. I'm not a big fan of horror movies because they are never scary. But I kind of liked The Ring. But one particular moment freaked Lani the **** out and she's refused to see any remotely horrorish movie since then.
