One thing I was wondering is that people in the town are hiding Jack. But why are they protecting him? Or is that in the movie...?
I think it's kind of weird for Davy Jones to show up and then not appear again or be around for the rest of the ride.

I like giving people the choice to be spoiled or not. But I suppose there's already been a bunch of open talk, so whatever.

Personally, I thought the changes made the ride feel shorter. I know my attention was on looking for the new elements, which means I tuned out stuff if there was no Johnny. And that made the ride seem to kinda speed by.

Just remember, in 20 years they'll try to make some significant change to the ride and our spiritual descendants will respond "what! that's a travesty! you can't mess with a classic!"

I've been concerned about it. A while ago I said on this board that there is only one Disney ride I find endlessly rideable; that ride is Pirates. I wasn't stuck on it remaining exactly the way it was but I also didn't want them to ruin whatever ineffable quality makes it work for me. I probably won't get to ride until sometime in August but I'm heartened that I have yet to year a single solidly negative reaction.

That's right, just like there are now hoards of 20ish'ers out there complaining that boat captains are NOT supposed to have guns, and pirates are supposed to chase food.

The guns were only gone for a couple years and the pirates are still chasing food.

But in anycase, the point remains that only some changes are accepted over the long term.

I think you won't hate it either. The key is that even after all the changes, it's still Pirates. I thought the lighting, sound, set dressing, and effects have been improved in nearly every scene that wasn't truly altered. Most of the Depp additions seemed fine to me, although the last one seemed kinda thrown in there.

It's still Pirates, and I'll still ride it over and over.
