Lot Book Club - Time Traveler's Wife
Have you guys forgotten about this book? We're overdue for discussing it. I liked it. More later.

I don't know if these merit discussion, but we've been re-reading the Moomin books by Tove Jansson to our children. For those off you who like your children's books tinged with sadness and an adult philosophical edge, I recommend them

HI!

To add to the longest running, least active book club discussion ever........
I just finished TTTW and I feel as if I've traveled to another place of existence. First of all, I have to applaud the author for referencing Possession, because the feeling I am left with after finishing this book is EXACTLY the same feeling I felt upon finishing Possession; although, I do not feel capable of describing this particular feeling, but I will try: I feel as though I've been in a place where I was very alone and the tendrils of a vine have wrapped themselves arond me, closing me off even more from the rest of the world but providing me warmth, comfort and protection. I feel as if I have just made an very emotional journey but instead of experiencing the emotions myself, I watched them happen to another version of me somwhere removed from where I am at now. I feel like a butterfly must feel once it emerges from its cocoon, but it's wings are still to damp to fly. I feel like I'm along on a vast, sun-kissed beach and the foamy edges of the waves are massaging my toes while the rest of my body soaks up the sun and warmth. I want to sit quietly and just experience what it is like to be still in time, for I know that I will be rudely shoved out of this place in no time at all. APPLAUSE!!! Thank you, NA. I can't say I felt exactly what you felt, but it's in the same camp. Emotion through metaphor. This is the kind of book I felt about more than I thought about, if that makes sense. I found it intellectually stimulating but not in a way that I could really discuss. Maybe I should have tried to write about it the way you did. Lovely, lovely to read. Thanks!
(In other news, I mentioned to Chris that I read Sputnik Sweetheart and it's now one of my all time favorite books. Also, if I ever have my own dog, that's gonna be its name.) |

UGH, this book has been on the table next to my bed for months.....soon I will get to it. Reading NA's post makes me want to chuck everything else aside and just read tonight.

I finally picked this up a little while ago and I'm nearly finished.
I just wanted to say that having déjŕ vu while reading this book is a very confusing experience.
