After all my ranting and raving...
So tonight - alas, no phone call has come through for me. Surprised, no? Disappointed - yeah, funny how that works. I called up Time Warner, expecting the worst, a battle of dimwits over charges and appointment times. After a fairly short hold time, I got Terence, who may go down in history as the best Customer Service Rep I've had the pleasure of speaking to on the phone.
And it's not even like he gave me good news. The news is that they do charge that C.O.D. By that, I am now able to infer that everyone else was full of air and didn't want to take the time to explain it to me or cause an angry customer. The charges are basically like an up-front first month. The other charges are a deposit for digital box, and there's another charge - some stupid fee. No, I don't like paying the fees. Yes, I like knowing what I'm paying for. Also, I can't get a time before I head out to Utah. So that means Tuesday, April 10 will mean a whole lotta install time that's two and a half weeks away. Not thrilling, but - it's kind of nice to know what's actually happening and why. So yeah. I'm paying $110 and I'm happy. WTF?

Since you copied my thread title...
The irony here is just amazing. I went with Time Warner Cable BECAUSE I was getting horrible CS from DirecTV and got a quick and painless response from TWC. I did have some issues with the appointed time, but it turns out the Saturday that my installation was scheduled for had a major area-wide outage that they were scambling to cover. I ended up having the supervisor come out on a Sunday - the day his vacation was supposed to start! - to do my installation because he felt bad that no one called me to keep me informed on what was happening on Saturday! And I think every time I spoke with a TWC CS before the installation, they kept reminding ME that there would be no charges the day of the installation. And then I read E's trials and tribulations and am astounded that we are talking about the same company. Once again, Alex is right.

Indeed.
It's all about "who you get." Clearly, I got the bottom of the barrel. I honestly can't say enough how happy I am with Terence. Bad news is fine, as long as I feel like I've been treated like a person who can think and reason for herself. I know when I got on the phone with him, I must have sounded about ready to snap (a few things in the non-cable-TV parts of my life transpired in a negative direction) - and he handled it with ease. I'm sure I probably shocked him with how grateful I was that he actually explained things to me. I'm still glowing about the otherwise crappy news (a.k.a. there really are charges) 5 hours later. That's lame. Or I've just had a bad day, which makes this bit of honesty all the better.

Wow! Your thread title certainly lives up to it's name.
Luckily the Orange County unit of Time Warner Cable has been good to me. Installation went swimmingly & I've had no problems. In the next few weeks I'm dumping AT&T DSL and switching to TWC's Road Runner internet service. Beep beep!

So yeah, super-glad I called up Time Warner to have an additional line installed on April 10th...
Turns out, no appointment was made. This guy was super reasonable, so I just made my appointments. Why does this day keep getting longer... and longer... ?
