Possible Democratic Convention party/fundraiser

I'm kicking around the idea of having a party to celebrate the Democratic National Convention and raising money for the Obama camp at the same time. (Leo is not invited ) The convention is on the last week of August, Monday through Thursday, so I'm wondering if I should hold off until the weekend after...but that's Labor Day Weekend. The weekend prior would be, well, prior, but that might be better for all concerned. Or we could say screw it and have a weeknight shindig. I know mousepod has set up a recurring Thursday night thing as well...

I'm adding a poll.

Thoughts? Interest? No donations required, just good company, though there would be an empty jar and a donations website available.

Full disclosure: I'm still registered Libertarian and have never voted Dem in my life...but this seems important to me...any takers?

Need another choice - "The dem party sucks and I'd rather donate my time and money to a homeless cat shelter."

I'd pick that one.

If you're gathering donations, just be aware of the reporting requirements when passing them along to the DNC or Obama campaign.

I'm going to set up a personal donations page on Obama's website.

Okay...looks like my work in this thread is done. The legalities have already been discussed. Already being involved in similar events for the Huckabee campaign last Fall (like debate watching parites) I just wanted to make sure the legalities were discussed cause even though I don't support your candidate I don't want to see my friends being caught doing something wrong that you did not realize.

Needless to say I want the Supreme Court to get off their Arses and throw out McCain-Feingold as Unconstitutional.

I'd love to join but no idea what work schedule etc will be. Pick a date and I'll try to make it.

It sounds like a great idea! Going into my final semester with 12 units and hockey I'm going to go with the pick and date and if I can make it, I will.

I've been talking to the wrong ones obviously. I can't even get a reach-around from that bunch.

I'd like to attend, but I don't think I can contribute. I'm trying to scrape up some money to contribute to a different political cause coming up for a vote in November that's far more important to me personally.

But I'll party for Obama anytime!

Hmm. I like to party. And in terms of Dem's, I like Obama far more than any candidate I have seen within my lifetime. 'Cept maybe for Lieberman. I love what the guy has to say. Very inspirational. Problem is, I just can't support him on many, if not most, of his positions. I can't contribute and likely will not vote for him, but I do think I would be OK with him being elected. Far more than I could say for Clinton/Gore/Kerry. Finally, the Dem's decide not to run a d-bag. Good move. And the Republicans - McCain? Really? Maybe 10 years ago but dang. I don't know.

I am so disenfranchised as it regards the upcoming election. Once again I feel like I can't vote for the one I want so much as vote against the one I don't. Now, if I could guarantee Obama with a Republican congress? Well that certainly woud be interesting. Perhaps warranting my first vote for a Democrat ever. Suffice to say, I rarely vote for the Republicans either. I tend to vote for the loosing (Libertarian) candidates.

I think that would work quite nicely. I disagree with Obama on all of the details, but love the "can do" attitude, eloquent public speeches (what a refreshing change) and the suposed support abroad. If his "image" could alone fix the issues with the Dollar while a Republican congress could keep him in check from f'ing things up too bad, I might be midly satisfied.
