My boss just reneged on my week off at the end of this month. Thus throwing my plans to move into my new place and then promptly take a tiny vacation to BC into a tailspin. Apparently no one can function (ie.. use the stinkin' copy machine, staple some packets together and then put them in the mail) without me. It's nice to be needed and all but I'm a little frustrated.

I've been handling a good portion of our software stuff at work... ie. installations, troubleshooting, researching etc... and provide feedback on other related IT items. I do a pretty good job and have been told so by both the boss (owner) and manager.
We hire a new person - for the purchasing position - who comes and tells me after being there for 5 days - that the computer stuff is not my job anymore. Now - that may very well be the case. It might be that my time is better used doing whatever - really - the reason doesn't even matter. But hello!?! There is a better way then to have a new person - who is NOT my supervisor or boss in anyway - come and let me know abou this. This same thing has happened over and over again in the last few days. It's frustrating to say the least. How about someone that I do report to letting me know about this. How about saying - I know we have relied on you in the past for all this but we want you to be able to devote more time to graphic design so we are giving this responsibility to so and so. Topping it off is that our new outside IT person is the purchasers Brother - who charges several times what I make hourly - and this somehow is a cost saving to us. Still haven't figured that one out. I know things change. I know that change is uncomfortable and that I need to accept it and move on. Next - We have hired several new managers who all have great ideas but have little idea of what we are already doing... so they approach the boss with their new idea - one that we are already doing - and somehow they now get the credit for it without having done anything but talk about it to each other. Or something that we've been suggesting for 6 months and then a new person comes in and says the same thing and it's now their great idea. People need acknowledgement for their work. Communication is now our new buzzword yet people aren't communicating nearly as much as they did before. So many new departments - all managers - no followers and well... Yes. I'm in need of venting. I heard about a book called "who moved my cheese". all about change and how to accept it and move forward instead of being left behind. Damn cheese. |

I just want to update everyone. The new person, our "buyer", had computer troubles... with her monitor. After 4 hours of her "handling" it, she determined it was the monitor and went out and bought a beautiful 19" flat screen that's about twice as much as what we usually pay for the 17" ones we get elsewhere. Come to find out, she was told that we already had another monitor (just not a flat screen) and she could come upstairs and get it. Further, she was told by her supervisor to wait until morning. She did neither... after a little investigating all that came out. That was the icing on the cake for me. I couldn't hold my tongue any longer.
So, guess who's got a pretty new monitor? Yep. That'd be me, my friends. We then went on to meet with her brother, our new computer guy. Guess who he's reporting to? Me me me. ![]() so - yesterday was a GREAT day! |
