Here we differ. I voted for Quake because he did the real work of the universe while Quisp just flew around hopped up on the hippie lettuce.

Here, however, I am guardedly optimistic. Guarded optimism may not sound like much, but it is a far cry from what I might have been, which was completely distraught.

I don't think your happiness should be dampened. You worked so hard for Obama and all that work helped him win last night. I think you should celebrate. The time for caution is over, he won. Yee haw!


Prop 8 passed, but it will be challenged, it will be struck down and there will be marriage equality in the future. I believe that strongly. What really makes me happy was that in the end the Yes on 8 people did not take away what truly matters: they can't nullify a person's love for another. That's still there. They think they may own the truth, but they don't.

Is this simply a case of cognitive dissonance? By now, the media has reported the importance of the Latino vote to Obama's win in such key states as Florida, New Mexico, and Colorado. President-elect Obama, by some early estimates, garnered the largest share of the Latino vote of any candidate in history, carrying it by more than 2 to 1 over John McCain.
In spite of what seems to be sweeping approval for a progressive agenda, Latino support of Prop. 8 has exposed an entrenched bias against homosexuality at once profound and confounding.
Perhaps because of the teachings of the Roman Catholic priests and now the evangelical preachers who have captured many Latinos' devotional intensity; or simply because of the macho albatross we all carry as part of our Latino heritage, the very idea of gay marriage is anathema to many in the Latino community.
