Friday night we went to a club called The Doors in Shibuya to see a band called Kiii:
![]() They were a lot of fun, high energy, silly, and entertaining. I was able to get a Campari and soda at the bar, which suited me just fine.

If you spent all day at my grandma's nursing home, you'd drink all night, too
I went out Saturday night, with the sole purpose of doing what I can to add to the LoT Pub total.
![]() First stop was a place called SoHo, because my friend liked the band that was playing, Delta Nove. I was somewhat unimpressed, but they were ok. I was feeling a bit drained after a long day, so I decided to forgo my usual V & T for something with a little caffeine and had a couple or four Red Bull & Vodkas. It was kinda a weird night. First when I was standing outside lamenting with some random people over having quit smoking (with cigarettes in our hands) "Believe it or not, I quit smoking." <drag> "Me too!" <drag> "No, I'm serious, I quit, this is my first in weeks." <drag> "I'm serious too, it's just when I drink......" <drag> "Yeah" I looked inside and saw a kid I used to know. I probably haven't seen him in 13 years, so he was 12 when I saw him last, but he looked exactly the same (only much bigger.) As I was standing there staring at him in shock, I heard someone say, "Hi Heather!" It was his older brother, who I hadn't seen in about nine years. I used to be friends with their older brother, who was killed in a car accident when I was in high school. I had lost track of them, and it was really weird to see them. I mean, they were really weird. I don't remember them being weird as kids. It made me feel really melencholy. Then a little bit later, an older dude came up to me and just said, "You're all grown up!" Then, luckily for him he said, "Remember me, I'm Tom!" (I say luckily for him because I was with my guy friends who are like a cross between a doberman, a rottweiler & a pit bull, and they're protective of me like I am their master ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway, we stayed there for quite a while since my friend was groovin' on the band, then we headed down to The Sportsman which you can always recognise by the crowd of smokers outside it. It was around 1:15am, and very crowded, and luckily, just as I was opening my mouth to tell my friend what to order for me, I remembered that they serve ridiculously strong drinks, and changed my order to a bottle of beer. My memory is a bit fuzzy from all the Red Bull & Vodkas I had earlier, but I seem to recall a brown bottle with a green label, so I think I had a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I could be wrong, though. What I like best about the Sportsman is the heavy metal music that is constantly playing, as well as the ESPN & Fox Sports that I can zone out to.....We had a couple of beers, then headed out the door after last call, and that was the end of a very odd evening.

VIP Treatment at Sharkeez Newport Beach
As you all know, I went on vacation last month and had a great nite at Sharkeez in Newport Beach. When we were there last they insisted I complete their little "Win a VIP" party form. I did and of course I received a VIP party. The party was for 10 or more people, drinks were you call it/well/ beer/wine 2 for 1 and a huge party platter of food.
I can honestly say that if you get the opportunity to go to Sharkeez to sign up for that party because it certainly was worth it!! Good sized drinks and great food plus they reserve a booth for you. The place really gets to jumping around 10 but we had an early Happy Hour and didn't need to drink once it was over. Can't beat that! ![]()

Went to Westwood Brewery to celebrate my sister's graduation from her UCLA MBA program. Second time I've been there, the first was just for dinner. This was for drinkin' hour. My oh my. As I understand, Friday's tend not to be particularly busy nights, so they may have just been unprepared for the graduation crowds. But damn did the service suck. Table drink service ended at about 11. And the bar....my brother in law spent 30 minutes trying to get drinks. He gave up. I took his place. The two (female) bartenders were paying attention to about 1/5 of the length of the bar. Bitches.
However, I managed to get a drink.....by chatting up the cute blonde that squeezed in next to me. SHE got one of the bartender's attention. Yay. The good: Mixed drinks were average, micro brew's pretty good. The building, and surrounding buildings are great old brick buildings. There's a large outdoor courtyard in the middle that's nice, and even at the most crowded the courtyard had plenty of elbow room. And you gotta appreciate the undergrad hoochies. The bad: Service. And you gotta get sick of the undergrad hoochies.

Last night we had dinner at Vert - the Wolfgang Puck Restaurant at Hollywood & Highland. I know, Wolfgang's a bit passe for this swank crowd, but the place had quite a few swanky touches. Actually, the bar seemed a bit cooler than the dinning room - might be a nice place to stop for a drink between movies.

Friday night was one of my best friend's 31st birthday, so BarTopDancer and I headed up to Santa Barbara to celebrate with him.
First stop was Pasqual's, a legendary old time SB restaurant. Pasqual's is yet another place famous for their strong drinks, and I've been there dozens of times, but every time, when I watch them make the drinks, I'm shocked. First some ice, then fill the glass almost all the way full with vodka, then literally, a splash of tonic. I swear, they don't even pour the tonic for a full second. My friends always joke that the tonic (or whatever mixer) is so expensive that they have to conserve it. The food at Pasqual's is always good, although on Friday I forgot to eat (must have had something to do with the strong drinks), except for a piece of cake that some girl actually tossed to me like a frisbee (again, must have had something to do with the drinks.) Next we all piled into cars and headed over to The Brewhouse across town to see my friend's band Burning Edamame perform. The band was excellent, as always. Even if I didn't know they were great, I would have known after a creepy stranger told me how great they are three or four times. Yeah dude, I know. I'm the president & only member of their fan club OK, not really. After the band played, & The Brewhouse had their last call at midnight, we headed back to State Street & headed for my favorite SB Irish pub, Dargan's. Dargan's was totally dead (which would have suited me just fine, but a) the guys wanted to be where the action is, and b) we were out of smokes and Dargan's doesn't sell them. So we headed across the street to The Press Room which was absolutely packed. The Press Room is the place to go in Santa Barbara if you want to watch your favorite rugby team on satellite. Or if you want to meet hot guys with sexy accents. We closed the place down, then alas, I had a washer, dryer & refrigerator to be delivered the next morning, so we headed back to my place. It was definitely a great evening. When I hit the ripe old age of 31, I hope I can have as swanky a celebration! ![]()

The drinks there wern't as strong at the brewhouse. I assume they had good beer but I'm not a beer fan, and sadly most of the beer I saw people drinking was not from the tap. Quote:
