| Senior Member | We're (finally) going to WDW. June 13-19. Yay! So what are are must see/do's? We've ruled out the dining plan as Maddie only eats like 4 things. So keep in mind any resturants must serve fries and some sort of chicken nuggets. Which shuts us out of a lot. We're also not really interested in any character dining.

American Adventure in EPCOT. I missed that when I went in 2000 and have regretted it ever since. Tower of Terror at the Disney Studios park. It's waaaayyy better than DCA's. MK's Splash Mountain. I like it better than Disneyland's. Rock'n Roller Coaster. Country Bear Jamboree. I wish I could still say Adventurer's Club... sigh. WDW's Fantasmic. Just so you can laugh at their steamboat. "Haw haw!" ~ Nelson Muntz Walking around the Tree of Life at AK. Lots of detail there. Fantillusion. Check out Obama at the Hall of Presidents... Skip: Enchanted Tiki Room: Under New Management | |

				            | I like eating at The Wave in the Contemporary, but I don't know that they will let Madz order off the kids menu there. The quick service place there, Contempo Cafe, had a really yummy steak flatbread. Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge is a good choice for a meal and they have one station of the buffet with chicken strips/mac and cheese etc. for the less adventurous eaters. Get some cinnamon-roasted almonds from one of the ODV carts. They are delicious and usually still warm out of the roaster. Way better than a churro. Animal Kingdom is a great park with lots of detail. I love going there and just wandering. Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney is a great place to eat. Food is good and prices are low (comparatively). Raglan Road at DTD is also good. It's Irish pub food and they have entertainment in the evenings. They also have a counter service window. Don't be shy to come over to MP and poke around the WDW forums either. |

Just ordered Passporter and a couple of other books. Hidden Mickeys and another one that has stuff to look for in the Queues. That should keep us entertained. We're trying not to do a huge amount of eating that requires reservations so that hopefully we can be a bit more flexible. I know all the "good" stuff requires reservations but we'd like to not be running around trying to make this or that reservation all day. One a day will be good I think. Steph I am also worried about them letting her order off the kids menu. We can always try to pull the diabetic card if that happens. Or I'm happy to pay a little more as well.

If you want to eat in the Castle, I have had some of the best luck calling the day before or the morning of. Since they charge you if you are a no-show, people actually cancel their reservations here. AKL is on of my absolute favorite hotels (although I love YC/BC for their proximity to Epcot). If you are staying at a moderate hotel, I strongly recommend renting a car instead of dealing with the buses, especially in the summer when it's crowded. Strongly. (It is not unheard of to wait 45 minutes or more during high season.) Plan one more day then you would otherwise think for Epcot. It is a huge park. Leave one unplanned day so you can go back and visit favorites and/or things you missed. I'm in the minority...I like the new tiki room. Just don't expect to make an apples to apples comparison with DL. On the other hand, I hate Country Bear Jamboree. I've never liked it, even as a kid. But that's me.

				            | EPCOT needs at least 2 days. It's a HUGE park and the best dining is in that park. Spend some time exploring different hotels. Animal Kingdom lodge is beautiful. When we went, we didn't go on direct copy rides (like Sorin) but we did make a point to go on rides that are the same but different (Splash, Thunder, Pirates). Read up on the Disney bus system a little before you leave. It's not complicated but it would have been easier if we kinda knew how to get from hotel to park to other park. Remember the monorails aren't just a ride, they are transportation. |

				            | The thing I wanted more time for at EPCOT was the ride exits and Innoventions. Some of the rides have interactive activity things at the exits, and it would have been fun to play a bit. I liked the non-ride things on the World Showcase: Norway has a church that has archological stuff inside, as does China; Japan has a koi pond and taiko drummers (see them!!!); Morocco has a display about the culture; France has fantastic food; and some of the street entertainment is fun. Fireworks and show at the end of the day was fun. If you get to the lagoon early, you can watch them light the torches at each of the stations around the lagoon. I know, not exciting, but it was kind of neat. I covered Magic Kingdom in one day; I didn't do the copycat rides, but did the same-but-different. Country Bear Jamboree was a must and I was so happy to see it. I enjoyed Liberty Square a lot. I used the website to plan my route through the parks before I left home. I knew what I wanted to see, and in what order. It was really helpful, rather than trying to do it on the fly with the map they give you at the front gate.

				            | The first time we went I bought the WDW Passporter and found it an invaluable resource. You could check the library for a copy. It has layouts of the hotels and parks. It lists all the rides and restaurants too. Moonie posted the link for the spot with all the menus. I found that very helpful to figure out where we wanted to eat. I found PS's more important at WDW. Especially if they are having the free dining deal! Although we usually had no problems making a PS the day before or morning of the day we wanted. Have a great time! |
