Of a sort. I won the battle, but I'm glad to be at a point in my life where I do not need Dickens and will not have to read any more of his stuff.

A lot of people like Dickens, but it's not for me.

I can't fathom why people like his stuff. Aside from Christmas Carol they all just go on and on and on and on....damn serials.

Only one time in my life have I taken an essay exam on a book I never read. That book was Hard Times. Some lit class or another when I was an undergrad. Blahblahblah. Misery, misfortune, woe. Dickens and Cooper: just say no.

Just wondering...

Am I alone in not being particularly enamoured with O. Henry. I'm about a third of the way through a collection of short stories and so far, I'm underwhelmed. Maybe I'm missing something.

Tom Robbins, on the other hand, is rocking my world.

Let's pick books that were made into movies. Then I could watch the movie and not read the book but still participate in the book club.

I'm too ADD to read books.

I'm presuming Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell is the first book - though I have yet to obtain a copy

However, anyone who would like to chat about Murakami, Niel Gaiman, or Duncan Glenn's I, Lucifer , which I'm reading at the moment, feel free to start a thread and I'll gladly join in.

I loved Devil in the White City, read that last summer. Fascinating read, if a bit verbose.
