First Swanking - January 28, 2007 - Pasadena

Chris' birthday (which is the 24th) is a great reason for a swaking. We're going to explore Pasadena and environs.

Planned Events:

Gamble House
11:30 AM to buy tickets for Noon (or 12:20) tour
$10 per person

Quote:
The Gamble House in Pasadena, California, is an outstanding example of American Arts and Crafts style architecture. The house and furnishings were designed by Charles and Henry Greene in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter and Gamble Company.
This is the REAL Arts and Craft movement in California and the Grand Cal was inspired in many ways by this fantastic house. You must wear flat shoes to do the tour.

Norton Simon Museum
Following Gamble House tour, approximately 2:00 or earlier until 6:00 closing
$8 per person

Quote:
The Norton Simon Museum of Art at Pasadena holds one of the world's finest and most prestigious collections of art. Reflecting the extraordinary effort and vision of its founder, it stands as a tribute to Human Civilizations, the visual arts, and the nobility of individual accomplishment.

The permanent collections consist of Western and Asian art from a period spanning more than 2,000 years. European and American masterpieces including paintings, sculpture, works on paper and photography are complemented by stunning art works from India and Southeast Asia. The Museum holds an extensive print collection, which includes rare etchings by Rembrandt and Goya as well as a comprehensive collection of Picasso graphics. The collection also includes the Galka E. Scheyer Collection of works by the Blue Four artists: Feininger, Jawlensky, Kandinsky and Klee.
There is also an impressive collection of Modigliani and Degas as well as a fantastic sculpture garden. Oh, and some pretty sexy Indian sculpture.

Evening:
Drinks and dinner at a location TBA.

I hope you all can join us.

Due to the limitated number allowed on the Gamble House tour, please reply in poll if you will be attending and arrive promptly at 11:30.
