If I take acetaminophen it frequently leads to projectile vomiting. And it's in most cold meds, so I can't take those either.

I've had minor issues, but nothing big, Ally. I do know people with more serious allergies involving sulfates in medicine, and other than that, I know people that have problems similar to what you're mentioning with ibuprofen.
On another note, I just realized that I'm still super tired. I'm going to go study or something.

Ally, ever since I got sober, I've been a real lightweight when it comes to decongestants and antihistamines. Years ago, I took Seldane, which was the first "non-drowsy" antihistamine on the market. Secondary issues have made that drug unavailable, but for the past several years I've had amazing luck with Allegra (much better for me than Claritin). Once Claritin went over-the-counter, I had to jump through hoops to get my insurance company to approve my Allegra prescription, but now that there's a generic Allegra (Fexophenadine), it's much easier to get.
I'm not a doctor, so I have no idea how this drug will affect you. I can only speak from personal experience. I would recommend you ask your doctor about Allegra. It's really saved my life.

I can't take actifed. It knocks me out, not in a benedryl way, but in a sick, "I may die from this" way. Certain other combinations will give me crawly skin, but sometimes the inner ear itching will only stop if I over medicate with different combinations.

MP, I was one of those that was nearly done in by the secondary issues of Seldane: I was on Seldane and had a horrid sinus infection. My doctor prescribed Erythrimiacine (sp?) and a few days into the treatment my heart started doing some weird things. I took myself off the Seldane and the symptoms stopped. At the time my doc thought I was being a flake, but after the news broke about the sudden death episodes linked to Seldane and Erythrimiacine I was exonerated.
Ally, my sis can't take anything but Sudafed, and my other sis can't take any sort of aspirin, ibu or acetaminophen. She is deathly allergic to salycilates and has to carry epi-pens with her wherever she goes. Check with your pharmicist with regards to your drug reactions- they are more likely to know the links between the different drugs and may be able to pinpoint the trigger. They may also know of alternatives that won't have such horrible side effects. |
