Pru- what's wrong with being a little selfish? You deserve that job just as much as anybody else- likely more than the others. You have worked your butt off, and you deserve the job.

It's all fine and good to wish they all got other jobs, but don't sell yourself short. See yourself getting the job, free and clear, on your own merits, and because you know your stuff, and you deserve it.

Teen boys.

We have a number of them in the neighbourhood and apparently they are hitting the trouble causing phase. So far it's minor issues like trash in our mail boxes, small fires (like setting a paper airplane on fire...), etc...

I know who's doing it, I don't want it to escalate, I just want them to knock it off. I also don't want to make a federal case out of it (ie call the coppers) or turn them against my own kids. Of course the parents of the kids involved are useless (what a surprise). Any suggestions for dealing with these hormone cases?

Perhaps show a great deal of interest in what they are doing?

Hire them to mow your yard or some such, pay them fairly. Make it worth their while not to lose a source of income.
