Have fun, LS!
Sooo...lately, some rather disquieting things have been happening with my MIL. About a month ago, she started losing things- important things. House, keys, a Visa card, eyeglasses, a watch she really likes, a $200 money order....all in the space of a week. I thought maybe her thyroid was off, so I insisted she go to her doc, and it turns out she has developed type II diabetes. She seems to have really taken this seriously and begun some real diet modifications, and so I thought perhaps this 'losing streak' was over. Well, tonight she kind of got weird over something really dumb: we have a utensil vase on our counter that's been there for years, one in which we place large spoons, spatulas, etc. We were in the kitchen tonight and she looked at it and said "Where has that been?" I was puzzled, and I said "The utensil thing? It's where it always is- why?" She seemed kind of flustered and said that when she put dishes away today she couldn't find it, so she had to put one of the utensils in a drawer- something that is ordinarily no big deal, but for some reason she was really defensive about it. I tried to shrug it off, saying that it had been there the whole time but she probably couldn't tell from all the clutter on the counter, but she was adamant that it had not been there earlier in the day. I could tell it was really bothering her, so I tried to put her at ease by just saying no big deal, but she started to seem kind of suspicious. I was a bit offended and I told her I really doubted anyone was messing with her, but she just sort of strode away saying "It wasn't there..I know it wasn't..." ****. I'm not stupid- I know that losing things, paranoia and forgetting things add up when someone is 72, but I'm really hoping it's just something else. I might add that a year ago she was hallucinating about spiders in her room, but we attributed that to a medication side-effect. She seems so with it most of the time, but when I think about it she spends a lot of time looking for **** she's lost or trying to get up the energy to get off the couch. As with any situation, there are a lot more incidents besides these that I find alarming, but I feel like things are speeding up and I need to be a little bit more proactive, something that is difficult to do in the Anderson (tuck you head in the sand and all will be well) Clan. ![]() |

Good singer, but distractingly operatic for Phantom, which requires a more hypnotic sound. Still, always nice to deal with nice people.

I understand what you're saying, my MIL had the same kind of issues a couple of years ago. We ended up with her in the hospital with a brain infection, diabetes, high blood pressure and a myriad of maladies. The worst part with her was she wasn't actually losing everything, some stuff she gave away... like her Home Depot card which they ran up as far as they could!! I really hope this isn't what I have to look forward to when we get older ![]() Good luck and keep trying to work with the Dr, no matter how much she balks. I think we waited to long and it has been an uphill bettle ever since! |

I can relate to the issues with the Old People. My dad's behavior has gotten increasingly erratic. He is an alchoholic, has finally beein diagnose with diabetes and has 4 or 5 stints in his arteries. He also has problems with the arteries in his legs, but they decided against getting anything done about it.
He has been crankier than normal, and his outbursts getting worse. I told my mom that I am thinking he has the onset of dimentia (I ruled out Alztheimers). She finally confessed that she thought so too, but doesn't want to think about it. She has her own set of health issues to deal with. I just wish she would take better care of herself because when she is really sick, or falls, or her blood sugar drops because she doesn't have time to eat, it directly affects me. For some odd reason, that I don't understand, I have some sort of (psychicish) connection to her. I always have. When she hurts I get sick. Most recently, when they were still in B.C. she fell. I was fine. We talked on the phone that night, she never mentioned she fell, but as soon as we hung up I was feverish, dizzier than normal, my hips really ached, just strangly sick. It wasn't until we talked 2 days later, after my illness went away as fast as it hit, that she confessed to have had a dizzy spell and fell straight back, bruising her butt. |

Gee, I hope things get diagnosed properly and things start to settle down for you WB. This sounds like no fun at all! BTW, on a totally unrelated subject, got anymore of Tori's artwork to share? I'd love to see some!
