agreed. sometimes the most disagreeable things are indeed for the best. a highly adult minded moment to be sure.

Argh. Looks like our move is delayed again.
![]() I'm appreciative that they're taking the time to do things right, but I'm tired of constantly calling the utilities to change the appointments. And, I'm scheduled for jury duty next week, so if I get picked, I lose all that time, not to mention my approaching client deadlines. I'm now waiting for the owner to call me back after he gets in touch with the contractors for an ETA. |

Maybe it's just me, but I'd call moving day a hardship.

Not only that, but I have a few things due next week, and I also have a doctor's appointment as well.
Trying to convince judges of "hardships" is nearly futile though. If I call up on Friday night, and they want me to report, I'll just sit during the selection process and not pay attention. I'm sure after I say, "Um, could you repeat that again?" a few times, they'll get annoyed with me. If anything, the attorneys will dismiss me, because they won't want to deal with that. |

But if you get to wait all day in the holding room, at least you can have your laptop with you.

Can't you delay it? In San Diego you can delay up to I think three different times. They want you to have a clear two weeks to serve, just in case. The last case I got called for the judge wasn't letting anyone out for anything. Luckily I didn't get picked as it was a gruesome murder case and ended up in a mistrial which would have sucked.

DP, tell them that when you go for jury duty. the jury selections Ive been to really would rather you not be there if you're going to constantly have your mind on something else and arent such buttheads to make you stay unless they feel like youre trying to con them.
I did something similar not so long ago. needed to work on a highly volitile project deadline at work. told them straight up I needed to during their initial questioning. "I'll of course stay if you need me to, but thought I should put that out there as I really do need to be somewhere else...it just means I have to work late after I leave here." they were very understanding and I was the first one released. bring some of your paperwork for the move with you as a wee bit of backup, just in case.

You can delay it. It should be on the jury duty sheet.
I used to get called in the middle of the semester. I kept getting it delayed and told them to call me during the off months. Like clockwork I would be called to report during the semester. Once I didn't even get the JD notice. I got a notice that said I failed to appear and my time was rescheduled. I panicked and called in and they said not to worry, nothing bad would happen the first time I did that. ![]() |

Sadly, I'm not "allowed" another postponement. This was the last one, thanks to our wedding last year, and then some illness and then my heavy-duty work over this summer.
I just emailed them though, requesting a 4-week postponement, otherwise, I can't even guarantee I'll pay attention from not having any sleep with the move, work, and doctor's appointment. Hopefully, they'll grant it. And, if not, then I'll tell them about everything else I have going on, and if that still doesn't work, then I'll get freaky like another friend did and say, "I spend most of my free-time with my coven." ![]() |
