I picked up a "vintage" (read "old" - ca. 1978) Ross gran tour road bike off of Craigslist. I've put about 2 hours of work into cleaning and tuning it and it's running great. I've already shaved 5 minutes off of my ride over what I was doing on my crappy mountain bike, and I'm still too out of shape to even run in high gear yet.

Good for you, GD! Bike commuting is fun! And yes, the 10mph speed limit is absolutely absurd. I'd ignore it, and so long as you're not rude, people will probably not hassle you.

A bike bell to announce your presence tends to help people be happier about sharing the path with bikes.

I've got a squeezy horn that squeaks. A lot of people have the ding! bells. Lets people know you're there and about to pass them.
