You're right; I don't have to read anything I don't want to read-- but the concept of cross-posting rubs me the wrong way, whether it's from blog to board, or board to board, or anything else. The Emily Post Netiquette in my head (which is my own, and only mine; everybody can follow their own personal Emily) says that if you're going to write something for a newspaper, you shouldn't sell the same story directly to another newspaper. If you're an original poster posting an original post, I prefer it to be, well, original.
Cstephens, you are welcome to post whatever you like, wherever you like. It's a free 'Net. I'm sure there are many posters here who are glad you're posting at four boards so that your topics can be brought up wherever they are. I don't mean to be snotty-- though I feel like I may be coming across that way. Cross-posting just isn't my bag. So I'll take your advice and only read your threads on one board. |

I like the personality differences on the boards. Some boards are argumentative and I don't participate much, but I'll read, others, like the LoT, are more thoughtful and more like a chat with friends. I don't care for the multiple board scattershot approach, and that was the point of my (duplicate) posts. If I have a topic that is of particular interest to one board or another, I'll keep it to that board, and tailor my OP to that board's personality. If, as in May 5th, I feel the need to share with more than one board, I take into account that the LoT has a limited readership, while at least 2 of the other boards are available to everyone, and there's no need to post on all of them.
I'm not interested in putting anyone on the LoT on ignore. That's the diff between "here" and "there." Speaking only for myself, the vibe on the LoT strikes me as more mature, respectful, and thoughtful than elsewhere. Otherwise. we'd still all be "there."

I certainly don’t post all my LoT threads to my LJ, but sometimes if it’s a little story about my day, I will share it with both because I want more people to read it and respond if they like. And I can totally see the point of cross posting a topic that’s being introduced for debate, because as others have already said, the debates will be different if discussed by various people, and I don’t know ¾’s of the people who post at MiceChat. There’s a LOT of people there, so I imagine the thread would be very differently received. |

Are we still talking about Universal Studios Hollywood? Well if we are, I'll proffer my $0.02.
I enjoy Universal Studios, albeit in a different (not superior nor inferior, different) vein than that of Disney Resorts (CA, FL, Paris). Comparisons of some empiricals like prices, etc. are totally fair of course, but there are marked differences as well. Apples vs. Oranges, Apricots vs. Mangoes. The larger issue at hand for me is I always feel incredibly grateful in SoCal, something for everyone in terms of Themed Parks, and mostly great weather to enjoy it in. Disneyland Resort, Knott's Berry Farm, Universal Studios, and Six Flags Magic Mountain come to mind, all within an hour or two on a mostly leisurely drive. Sure there are some things to be desired at some of these places, but there are surely some to be enjoyed as well. No place is perfect -- you know what they say about trying to please everyone. I enjoy them all, and more importantly, I enjoy the fact that those of us in the general Southern California area have them as accessible choices. Anyway, just offering some (hopefully) mature, thoughtful and respectful (thanks, Gn2Dlnd) balance on this Universal Studios Hwood commentary. Last edited by surfinmuse : 06-24-2005 at 04:03 PM. |
