Awwww, I know your pain well. All I've had is dial up at home. Here at work is all high speed and I love it.

Yay for Little Miss Sunshine getting some recognition. Same with Cars. I hope to see more of these in the coming months before the big awards. (Like the Razzies)

We need our own film award. The Swankies.

Saw Volver over the weekend. It is the best foreign language film I've seen this year, but I haven't yet seen any of the other in their top five and the only one I am likely to see soon is Curse of the Golden Flower (which, based on Hero and The House of Flying Daggers I expect to be visually stunning and narratively boring).

The direction and the editing in "United 93" were amazing.

I'm sad I missed "Sunshine"...

I'm amazed by the amount of overpraise that The Devil Wears Prada is getting. It was a fun movie but nothing more.

Have to disagree on the Annette Bening nomination. She was at her screeching worst in this one. If they felt the movie needed some recognition (and I'd disagree; it was a pleasant distraction at best) there were other better performances to call out.

Splitting the vote on DiCaprio and Eastwood is interesting since everything I hear is that in both cases one of the selections (The Departed for DiCaprio and Letters from Iwo Jima for Eastwood) are far superior to the other.

Nomad for original score is a bit of a cop since it won't play in the U.S. until next year but it does mean that two movies nominated this year somehow involve Kazakhstan. That is about as odd as the fact that two of the Foreign Language movies were made in the United States by English speaking directors (not that I have a problem with it; they fit, though I'd prefer the category be best non-English, non US/Brit production).
