Here are my Picks for this years Tour.
Keep an eye on Oscar Periero and Caisse d'Epargne's Alejandro Valverde.

Valverde has for the most part been quiet this spring and maybe focusing his peak performance for the Tour De France. Look for these two in the hills.

After winning this year's Dauphine Libere' Frenchman Christophe Moreau may bring back a French renaissance to the Tour De France.

Levi Leipheimer is my American choice for this year's tour. Look for him in the last week. It's still so up in the air on who will win.
Alexandre Vinokourave and Andrea Kloden.
Georgie Hincapie will be in the top 20. I still have a rough time believing he could win the Tour. I would like to see him win a stage of the Tour.

Here are this morning's Tour preliminary results in the prologue in London.
Here
Enjoy! This site is the best for live results and action from the Tour every few minutes.

We just found OLN (now Versus) on our TV. It's the end of the program, but at least we know where to find it. I'm glad to see George doing well. He's a good guy.

Oooh! I just saw O'Grady's crash.

After a huge crash Robbie McEwen takes the stage. Apparently he came out of nowhere. Amazing!
The Prologue winner Cancellara averaged 34.5 miles per hour and almost caught the motor bikes in front of him at one point.

That was some crash yesterday. Sorry to hear that the one Discovery Channel rider broke his thumb and had to abandon the Tour. What a bummer of a way to go. It was a serious enough break that it will require surgery though. He looked like he was in a lot of pain as he was helped over the line by a teammate.

The first week is always about survival for the potential General classification leaders.
One thing about racing in Europe is that the riders are (at times) literally shoulder to shoulder, whereas here in the states there is a bit of space between them. The trust factor and a little bit of professional bike handling only goes so far 35+mph.
In case you plan to watch it here is one result from today's stage quite a shocker:
Spoiler:
Fabian Cancellara wins again!!!! This man is an machine!

I don't remember which team it was but I saw one rider had his hand on his teammate's shoulder as they rode up to the line- was that him? I couldn't tell if he had a hand/wrist problem or a rib problem, just that he was holding one arm up off the handlebars. It stinks for him to get all the way up to the Tour and have to abandon.

The only other rider that seemed to be in difficulty after the crash was Cancellara. I hope he's ok though I still hope Levi wins the Tour.

There was full coverage on last night. It went on for several hours - which is great until it gets to be 11 pm and there is still quite a bit of racing to do. I made the call to go to bed. Now it seems I missed an awful crash? Discovery lost a team member? I'm just going to have to learn to deal with lack of sleep.

Yes, that was the Discovery Channel Team rider. They have changed their colors to more of a green this year. Tomas Vaitkus is the rider who is out. He was a sprint specialist.

Or you could get up earlier.

Stage 3 is waiting for me on TiVo. I think they start live coverage at 5:30am? I don't remember. When we watch tv before Shawn gets up for work it's on.

Lisa, the crash at the end of stage 2 took out most of the peloton. Two riders got up from it holding their wrist; one was helped to finish out by his team-mate and Cancellara was just holding his hand up off the handlebars. It looks bad.
