Yeah, in re-reading the dates in the news story, I'm pretty sure it was a year ago, wherever the impetus came from, that I heard about it this first time around. Then, it was a sad tale on the social networking boom.

As for anything on television, I am pretty much out the door for work/school before anything comes on TV and busy writing/studying when I'm home at night, or occasionally out with a random friend. LoT and the Yahoo front page are pretty much my touchstones with pop culture. I had no idea this was such the big story these days.

I guess what I got out of this latest reading of the story was that the restrictions Megan was on (it appears as though her mom either logged in for her, or had some sort of restriction that might have included the removal of all internet/whatever) was because she was busted with her former pal and their fake account to talk to boys. I am also understanding that the mom was the one who made the account to take part in her daughter's feud or whatever. However it got out of control, the Josh Evans creators (the parents of the former friend) knew exactly what was up... or so it seemed... if they indeed made that MySpace profile.

Crazy.

This story is terribly sad. I feel so badly for Megan, it is so hard to be a young person.

And, some parents, and I am thinking about this mother, who claims she wanted to see what Megan was saying about her daughter, just don't teach their kids the right values. Back off, don't talk crap about the other person, just let it go. Be a bit mature.

I have a friend right now whose daughter is a Junior in High school north of here. An older girl, out of school {or at least 18+} has decided that she hates her and has attacked her numerous times. She has 100lbs on her and is quite violent. My friends' daughter actually had to be taken to emergency. The cops? Well, the emergency room was the first time...and they did nothing.

I wonder where her parents are, as has been questioned in this story, and what/how they are directing her to behave?

It is so sad because Megan will never come back, never be able to get over it. Or move away.

Geez, how I wish we could rewrite the ending. In the new ending, Megan goes to the prom with some boy her "friend" down the street had her heart set on. Megan is crowned prom queen - of course.

Then Megan goes on to college, eventually becomes her generation's Oprah. The "friend" and her mother? They clean porta potties at construction sites.

If only.

It's so sad because no one will ever know what she would have done with her life.

Even if she chose to do not a heck of a lot, it still would have been hers.

I am frustrated sometimes with people who you can't reach....there are things in my life I would like to do...the biggest being able to get through to some people how important they are in this life.

This ticks me off, because I get to hear about teens on the verge of suicide all the time, and wonder how much of it is manipulation by people that "care" for them.

I would venture to say a lot Matt. The teenage years are freekin hard when you have a family that loves you and some friends. But when you feel alone and isolated, even if you have family who loves you it's easy to be manipulated by others.
