Yes to all of the above (there are, however, some profile 1.0 players that are cheaper than the Ps3).

According to that article I linked to, the 2.0 profile players will be in the $500-$650 range when they arrive this summer. They'll drop by Xmas, or next year of course. But the Ps3 is already at 2.0, and it costs $399-$499, depending on how big you want the hard drive (which you can always upgrade, since it's just a regular SATA drive).

LOL goober, but then you need to figure out how to out all that via HDMI to your TV, get a remote control going, figure out how to hook it to your 5.1 (or 7.1) receiver, etc. etc. Which I'm sure you know how to do My computer is in the other room.

Well, I do build computers, especially ones that look just like any other home theater component (complete with IR and RF remotes), just in case you wanna do something crazy.

sorry dude, the HT boxes run Linux/MythTV, but I'm sure I could build one with a smaller Mac and an ATI Wonder card.

Since Cherny requested I "chime in" - and since his recommendation was the tipping point for my PS3 purchase, here goes:

I am very happy with my PS3. I use it all the time. It handles blu-ray discs perfectly - I have a small but growing collection. I have it hooked up to TV with an HDMI cable and it's connected to my receiver with an optical cable. I have bought exactly one PS3 game: The Lego Star Wars Complete Saga. I've used the wireless controller to play it - and I've had hours of fun. I will probably buy one or two more games this year - just for the option of playing games. The PS3 is also connected to my wireless network, and I can stream audio and video from my computer. It's a neat little machine.

The only thing I don't love love love about it is that the upscaling isn't quite as good as my Oppo. When the Oppo blu-ray player comes out later this year, I'm sure I'll get one, too.
