I know I am days late, but I ALWAYS need blackberries.. too bad I live way the hell far away from you.

AND NA? The cat litter thing... they need to ingest at least some of it, but as was said earlier, licking their paws after going potty can do it in a cat predisposed.
It very well could be the combination.

For the LA-area library types - MOCA is hiring a two-year, temporary, processing archivist.

It is offical. I am stuck in doggy hell. I went out this morning to find ANOTHER dog in our yard. The fence between us and one of the houses behind us is falling apart. One of their bull-type dogs (I hesitate to label it a pitt) was in our yard. They have at least 3 back there. One of them, that was looking through the fence) has a bulldog face, but the one that came through had more pitt type features (right down to a studded collar). I only heard the third. I chained up Sox, pulled on gloves and move some of David's sheet metal across the areas they are using for access and then placed a stepping stone down for extra weight. I really hope this works until David gets home. I told Nick he was not to go in the back yard until it is fixed.

grrr...not the way I wanted to start my day!!!

I also found that both the silica and clay cat litters can cause upper respitory problems with cats as well. We've had our share of colds lately.

I'm starting to piece this stuff together and wonder if much of the sickness has been caused or contributed to by the cat litter we've recently been using. The timing sure seems to be approximate.
Susan just purchased a self-cleaning litter box (a one-hundred-and-forty-dollar-cat-box - WTF?!?). We'll let you know how this works out.

Yes, but those boxes use clay litter.

I'm switching to KittyPine today. I'll report back on that.

BTW, I've used the self-cleaning litter boxes before with some of my kitty-charges. Yes, they scoop, but they just deposit the poop in a container that fills up pretty fast. Also the litter and poop gets stuck in the teeth of the cleaning mechanism and is really icky.

Does the Kitty Pine have a pine scent? I knowI was told not to use wood shavings for the rat cages because their urine hits the pine and causes fumes that contribute to respatory problems. I had to switch to a recycled wood pulp type bedding. It works, no more bloody sneezes. I only have 2 rats that sneeze, Squiggles and Peach (who takes pride in sneezing on my glasses).

I don't know if cats would have the same problem. Whenever we had cats they were always outside cats, so no litter boxes.

I have come to the conclusion that I am in housework avoidance mode. I am also in picture avoidance mode. I need to change the ink cartrage and paper so that I can print out the pics I took both Thursday and last weekend. I just don't want to mess with it. I wish the Old People would just get a broadband connection already so that I can just email the pics to them and make mom print them out herself!!

When I had Sophie in my little single apartment in Hollywood, I used Feline Pine. I'd get it at Trader Joe's or Ralph's. No smell at all, flushes right down the terlet. You'll use about half the amount in the box that you would for clay. The cats may not like it for the first day, then they get over it. Bonus: No more stepping on pointy little clay rocks in your bare feet!
