I just found a small tumor under Peach's arm. I knew it was going to happen, just wasn't expecting it so soon.

It is Princess Peach. She is a rather large beige rat. She is around 18 months old. An average life span for a rat is 18mnths-2yrs. Right now it is the size of a small pea. It could probably be removed, but it wouldn't help her life span.

HI!
|
This myst be "pet-get-sick" week. I'm sorry to hear about Peaches. I didn't realize rats have such a short lifespan (short compared to us, of course). That's sad news.
In other sick pet news, Jack is home but he's nove very happy. He is having some post-catheter pain and he's pretty uncomfortable. The worse news of the day is that Lyra (our caligo girlie) is has chronic renal faliure. She's been looking worse and worse over the past couple of days. We'll see when the bloodwork comes back tomorrow just how bad it is, but it seems that it is pretty bad and she may not be with us very much longer. We thought she ws 13, but the doctor thinks she is probably 16. She's had a long life and used many of her 9 lives already. I just have to wait for the bloodwork to see what sort of decision we made and when. I'm not going to let her suffer but I'm not going to torture her with SQ fluids either. I'll know more tomorrow morning. She's already outlived all of our previous cats. Poor Grumpy Girlie. ![]() |

Okay then, I will share our pet woes (albeit minor compared to others here).
The latest hatching of dragons had a number of defects. Five total. Since they can't be sold, we now have a grand total of 18 dragons at home (yikes!) All the latest have issues with their eyes. The problem is similar to the two others we had previously: their eyes have not developed properly. They should develop fine, except there is one with TWO bad eyes. We are fairly certain that he is blind, although there is no way to be certain. We are not sure how to deal with him. He is, ironically, the most active of the five. We have to be careful about approaching him to pick him up (on the first day, I didn't take this into consideration and scared the crap out of him when I first touched him to pick him up). We'll see how things work out.

I had a rat once that had major eye issues. Both of her parents were my pets. She was the runt of the litter. I named her Wilbur. Neither of the eye sockets unsealed, she looked like she just kept them closed, but for obvious reasons they couldn't open. One socket was totally empty, the other had something in it, but not nearly enough for an eyeball. I kept her so that I could be sure she wouldn't be a feeder. She was amazing. She did things that the others wouldn't ever do, because she couldn't see that it was impossible. Her favorite thing was to climb up the smooth side of my desk and eat my eyeshadow. I never bred her mother after that.
On a lighter note, Nickolas got his results from the CAT thing he did in April (Calif Aptitude Test). There weren't any surprises. He is waaaay above average in math and a tad above average in reading/writing, but only when compared to California students. Nationally he is a tad below average in reading/writing and above average in math. They must not have had any reading portions about Yugioh or Pokemon. |
