I have to disagree. I think at least some people really aren't into stirring ****. I almost never am, unless it's someone I really can't stand, then my childish side takes over. I do admit to enjoying watching others fight on occasion, though. Childish again. Like GD said though, I'd rather not fight most days, but if someone throws something my way I'm usually more than happy to throw back. Even more childish, I know. I try really hard not to call people on their BS, even if it's really obvious, because I haven't ever encountered anyone that wasn't at least a little full of it. Those that do make a point to call out others usually end up looking like asses because their own BS shows through. We're all so imperfect that we're better off trying to improve ourselves more and make ourselves look better less. When I was really involved in dance years ago my mean side really had a chance to shine (dance will bring that out in people, especially teaching/choreographing). I quickly decided that that side needed to be locked away most of the time. I've had enough **** stirring from myself and others that I stay as far from it as possible now. I do enjoy being contrary in a less vindictive way. I take evil pleasure in knowing the quirks of those I'm closest too and playing off them. The real reason we aren't telling anyone the baby's name is just because it drives my family crazy. If it didn't bother them, I probably wouldn't bother doing it. ![]() As I'm posting this though, I'm really hoping that this thread doesn't have anything to do with whatever soap opera-ish stuff that goes on offline that I don't usually have a clue about. If it does, then consider me clueless. My post is just about general contrary-ness.

Nope. We've decided there is a Mischief Virus going around, and we are all just feeling it's effects. We're just being playful, people! Chill and get silly with us, or ignore us.

I'm all about mischief, but some of the posts in this thread weren't clearly playful. I don't think I should have to be playful or shut up. I don't need to chill. My post was general, not directed at anyone, hence the disclaimer.

You asked a flipping question, and then jump on me for responding? Not cool- and all I was doing was explaining the original intent and mood when this thread started. Wtf?
Thanks for messing up my good mood. |

There have been serious posts in this thread (as in seriously talking about being contrary) so I didn't think I was doing anything wrong by posting something non-playful. When you said to get playful or ignore you (basically to shut up) I found that dismissive. If I have a real thought on a subject in a thread I should be able to say it. I didn't attack anyone, nor do I feel obligated to be playful. I was just posting my thoughts about being contrary.

I was referring to the same people you were, and you too. I did not say shut up, I said ignore, and there is a huge difference. In our house, saying shut up is as bad as swearing, so if I say it, I will make it worth my while and say soemthing along the lines of "Shut the **** up". I was having fun, could understand your confusion, and was trying to help out. Won't make that mistake again.

Wendy, I really think we are getting worked up over nothing. I like you! I just thought you were getting mad at me for posting something serious when you thought the thread should be playful. I just don't like being told to be the way others are being or ignore it. I'm sure I mistook your tone. Cool?

I'm not often in control of my contrary impulses. I wish I was more impulsive and rebellious than moody and rude.
Rudeness is especially unforgivable. I find that I'll often chose politeness over honesty when I'm in disagreeable company. And just once I'd actually like to fire off what I'm *really* thinking, and see the looks on their faces. But then I start to worry that it's not just a matter of being true to myself, it's a question of also being rude to others to satisfy my own satisfaction. So, I'm completely not sure what's the better road to travel a lot of the time. As a result, I kind of stand still useless and bewildered. |

![]() Now I feel bad. Really. ![]() I'm sorry, Traci, if my odd form of banter with Lisa helped cause your misunderstanding with Wendybeth. I do like to mess with people on occasion and the fact that this thread was about mischief was too good to resist. I didn't mean to throw off anyone else's groove. ![]()
